I am very pleased that The Gathering has been selected as a finalist in the Mission to Seafarers Victoria Maritime Art Prize 2023. Judging to take place in late October.
The Gathering
A moment of shared experience and sensation amidst the rushing and receding of the encircling shore break. The people are my family, the dog is young and new to the ocean. A commonplace scene but a moment forever etched into our collective memory of the day. The Gathering is inspired by exposure, proximity and familiarity with the wild ocean.
Richard is an Australian artist working with the landscape as his central motif, most particularly, the coastal environment, the intersection of land and sea, earth and water.
